Yongjing to Xiahe

Day 49 Friday 18th September 186 km (15901 km total)

Bring on the twisties, changing architecture & a long awaited coffee!

- - - -

A good days ride today with twisty roads from the start as we climbed out of Yongjing, over the dam & further up into the mountains.

Some of the roads were spectacular, I almost forgot to press the camera button...

Still have to be careful though, surprises await on every bend ...

The hill sides were steeply terraced for planting. The height here varied between 2600 - 3000m

A typical street scene passing through a highland village ...

With sheep blocking the road ....

And a lady taking her cows for a walk

In the latter half of the ride they had built a new expressway along side the existing local road, both punched holes through the surrounding mountains - such engineering scale!

Xiahe is a pleasant town famous for its large monestary. We arrived mid afternoon, mso I went for a stroll with John from Canada, one of the other riders.

The architecture in the old buildings was markedly different from previous towns, we were getting closer to Tibet.

A local butchers shop

Just down a side street from the butchers we found a real coffee shop, I've not had a decent cappuccino since Italy - so I had 2, then went back to the hotel & fell straight asleep!....maybe caffeine works differently at altitude?

Going even higher tomorrow ...
