Best nights sleep so far last night, so I woke feeling refreshed and also pleased not to have to pack everything up again.
Breakfast was great, new little bits kept appearing .... toasted french bread with a fresh grapefruit sauce/jam, sweet samosas covered with honey and with either cream cheese or bean paste filing, local version of spring rolls, potato fritters, plus cereal, fruit, yoghurt, cheese, cake, fresh orange juice & of course mint tea .... yum!
Plan for the day was a look around the medina in the morning whilst it was quiet & not too hot, followed by blogging, washing & working out where to go next. A nice relaxing day after continued movement.
The medina was only 5 minutes walk from the hotel

Around one side of the walls, which unfortunately you could not go up, was a nice little park.

You entered through one of a number of gates into a labyrinth of twisting marrow streets.

I love the blue & white used everywhere, but they had also decorated a number of walls and pots - all very pretty in the bright sunlight.

Some of the streets had quite a bit of greenery and trailing bushes.

Many of the buildings were shop houses, but most were not open yet - I will have another look this evening when it will be more buzzing, in the meantime it was nice to see the place without lots of people.

Lots of rug shops and this horse was doing a delivery run I think.

The medina embraces a promitory of land and the walls look out onto the Atlantic ocean.

The only person I saw on the beach all morning.

Further around there was a small section of wall you could ascend, which gave a good view back towards the medina.

The horse seemed to have dropped off some stock next time I saw him.

Just outside the medina was the town proper - with a strip of restaurants and bars, both local and of the pizza & chips variety.

There were also some colourful transport options available.

The stroll was completed with a mint tea at a nice little cafe inside the medina.
Very pleasant place, Assilah, only 45 minutes from Tangier, but much more laid back - would make a nice long weekend vacation spot from the uk If your after something a little different.
