Saturday 13th May - to the bottom of Europe - 281km (total 2707km)

I had planned this last day in Europe as a shorter one to allow some buffer for unforseen events and despite a rather restless nights sleep in the tent, and no breakfast, it was a good day.

I intended to visit Ronda on the way down, famous for its mountain top location and old bridges, however this had to be abandoned as it seemed the whole of spain has the same idea and entry to the town was gridlocked.

Upon leaving the campiste we spent the first half hour or so travelling through olive plantations in glorious sunny weather.

And then the hills & riding fun started......

The roads before and after Ronda are glorious, good condition, largely empty & containing bend after bend.

This part of Spain has easily been the most fun to ride, though to be fair, the good weather may have had something to do with it.

As we descended towards Algeciras, we had to stop for a 'horse jam' - there must have been a couple of hundred horses filing past for some kind of local event.

By early afternoon, we had reached the port town of Algeciras & checked into a comfortable hotel with a great view of Gibralter & the port.

The afternoon was spent walking down to 'sus out' the docks, checking ferry availability & buying tickets. This was followed by an enjoyable evening tucking into a selection of dishes in a cafe/bar whilst watching the Eurovision song contest with some very enthusiastic locals.

Tomorrow its into Africa & phase 2 begins!
