We left Isselday and continued down the pass and into the valley.
We passed through Ouarzazate famous for having two very large film studios, we passed both but did not stop for the guided tours. The list of films that have made use of the studios is long & impressive & includes Star Wars, one of the bond films, the Mummy Returns, The Kingdom of Heaven, Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, the listbgoes on.
Past Ouarzazate, the road weaves its way across the desert valley - very hot, very dry & very monotonous.
There was the occasional ruined kasbah to break up the landscape.
Eventually as we aproached Boumalne Dades the lanscape improves
And the town itself comes into view, we turn left down tye Dades Gorge a kilometer before the town.
Immediately the scenery & riding improves as we climb through the gorge. We pass the stopping point for the night and continue northwards & upwards.
Soon reaching the much photographed narrowest section.
Approaching the gorge from the south |
Looking back at the gorge from the north |
The road climbed after the narrow spot and after a series of tight hairpins.
H wisely decided to call it a day and headed back down to the hotel, the heat was quite intense and it was getting to him today. I decided to push on to see how far we could get on this road - which was reported to eventually be unpaved.
There continued to be ruins here and there.
As it continued to climb the scenery took on a different character, very barren and dramatically beautiful.
The road became rougher and a mountain stream provided some greenery.
The road climbed again leaving the greenery far below, and some preciputous drops to watch out for.
I continued along a high barren plateau past M'Semrir dor a while but the road bacame pretty broken up & I was pretty whacked so decided to turn around and head back down to the gorge and our B&B for the next two nights.
Room for the night 😊
